About this Role
IOM Syria seeks a Junior Professional Officer (JPO) to support planning and coordination of voluntary return movements for Syrian nationals under the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme. The role is a 1-year fixed-term appointment with renewal possibility, providing an excellent opportunity for early-career humanitarian professionals to work at a senior UN agency in Syria.
Responsibilities
- Support planning and coordination of voluntary return movements for Syrian nationals
- Organise safe and dignified transportation for returnees
- Implement protection-sensitive approaches throughout the return process
- Liaise with government authorities, UN agencies, and other humanitarian stakeholders
- Draft project reports, workplans, and donor updates
- Ensure compliance with IOM and donor requirements
- Support monitoring and documentation of reintegration outcomes
Requirements
- Master's degree in humanitarian affairs, international relations, development, or related field
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience in migration, returns, or humanitarian programmes
- Knowledge of IOM's AVRR framework and voluntary return principles
- Experience working with Syrian or Middle East context preferred
- Fluent English required; Arabic highly desirable
- Strong report writing and analytical skills
