About this Role
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) assists refugees and internally displaced persons across the globe: providing emergency aid, fighting for their rights, and strengthening their opportunities for a brighter future. DRC has operated in Syria since 2008, initially responding to the Iraqi refugee crisis before transitioning to a full-scale response to the Syria crisis from 2011 onwards, working across five key sectors: Economic Recovery and Resilience, Protection, WASH, Shelter and Infrastructure, and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding.
Overall purpose of the role: The Shelter, WASH, and Infrastructure Field Assistant provides administrative and technical support within Hama and Homs Governorates for the Shelter, WASH, and Infrastructure sector. 2 positions available.
Contract: National contract · 6 months (potentially renewable) · Start: As soon as possible · Level I2 (DRC salary scale) · Deadline: 14 May 2026
Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-assessments for shelters, schools, and WASH infrastructure
- Create sketches for rehabilitation activities and AutoCAD drawings
- Document work sites through photography
- Monitor implementation progress and conduct head counts
- Perform quality surveys with beneficiaries
- Supervise equipment and furniture distribution
- Submit quarterly market pricing reports
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by the direct manager or Shelter Manager
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the construction domain
- Engineering degree in Civil, Architecture, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering
Technical Competencies
- Experience following standard procedures and guidelines for shelter and WASH projects
- Knowledge of renewable and durable power projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic
