General Coordinator / Head of Mission – Syria

Médecins du Monde (MdM France) is seeking a General Coordinator / Head of Mission to manage and reinforce its programme in Syria. Following the rapid power shift in December 2024, MdM is adapting its interventions to remain effective and impactful in Syria's evolving humanitarian landscape, providing primary healthcare services and community-based health approaches.

About the Context

16.5 million people are currently in need in Syria, with 8 million urgently prioritised. MdM's strategy is structured around providing primary healthcare services through three health facilities and ensuring a community-based approach to promote equitable access to healthcare for all.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall management of MdM's Syria mission, including strategic leadership, programme development, and team management
• Develop and reinforce programme strategy aligned with MdM France's mission and Syria's evolving humanitarian context
• Represent MdM with authorities, donors, UN agencies, NGOs, and media
• Oversee financial management, operational security, and compliance with MdM standards
• Lead resource mobilisation including proposal development and donor relations
• Manage and support the mission team — including national and international staff

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience as Head of Mission or Country Director with an international NGO
• Strong experience in humanitarian programme management in conflict or post-crisis contexts
• Proven leadership and team management abilities in multicultural environments
• Experience in security management in complex environments
• Excellent French and English skills required (MdM France)
• Previous experience in Syria or Middle East is a strong asset
• Medical or public health background is an advantage
