The British Red Cross is seeking a Livelihoods Coordinator to provide strategic technical leadership for the Syrian Arab Red Crescent's (SARC) livelihoods programme. Based in Damascus, the role will help SARC transition from project-based implementation to a coherent, institutionally anchored livelihoods portfolio contributing to sustainable recovery and economic security.
Contract: 12-month fixed term, renewable | Salary: £39,894/year + £1,617/month allowance | Unaccompanied position
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-level technical leadership to strengthen SARC's programme quality, institutional capacity, and design of scalable market-based livelihoods interventions
- Support SARC in developing a coherent livelihoods portfolio across agriculture, livestock, microenterprise, and Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA)
- Work closely with SARC and Movement partners (IFRC, ICRC, Partner National Societies) to ensure alignment and effective resource mobilisation
- Lead market assessments, feasibility studies, and response analysis to inform programme design
- Deliver training, coaching, and capacity strengthening for SARC staff and volunteers
- Develop high-quality donor reports and support resource mobilisation efforts
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in livelihoods programming including market systems, economic recovery, and Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA)
- Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting complex data to influence decision-making
- Experience strengthening institutional capacity and supporting National Society development
- Proven ability to develop high-quality donor reports and funding proposals
- Fluency in English required; Arabic is desirable
- Willingness to travel to field locations in demanding and complex environments
